Course Description

Level 2 Photography gaining Achieved for the external 12 credit portfolio. Students are expected to have a sound academic record with adequate study habits.



Photography 301
The course builds on Level 2 Photography. At Level 3, students will be required to produce a thematic study of a subject to show evidence of their understanding of photography as picture making. They will build on skills gained at Level 2 and apply that knowledge to show their ideas by using camera techniques and the use of Photoshop. Students are encouraged to research and apply a range of contemporary photographic practices to systematically generate and develop images to show clarification of ideas.

Use drawing to demonstrate understanding of conventions appropriate to photography.

Term 2
Internal assessment AS91452 (3.3): 4 credits
Systematically clarify ideas using drawing informed by established photography practice.

External assessment AS91457 (3.4): 14 credits
Produce a systematic body of work that integrates conventions and regenerates ideas within photography practice.

Contributions and Equipment/Stationery

There is a $110 cost for materials used during the year. Students will need to purchase $20 credit to cover individual photocopying for proof sheets and mock-ups. While the school has digital cameras for loan, it is highly recommended that students have their own digital camera with manual controls. The recommended camera is the Canon EOS 1300 D. Students will have access to computers, printers, scanners and professional studio lighting.
Students may visit Pataka Gallery to view top folios from the previous year. This would come as an additional bus cost of approximately $10.
