Course Description

Level 1 Physical Education 101 - not essential


The course is a mix of practical and written assessments. Topics include a Fitness Training Programme to compete in a 4 km run, Group processors and what is required for a group/team to function efficiently,  Social Responsibility (Waka Ama), Performance against National Standards in a practical area (Ki o Rahi), teaching KiwiSport to Intermediate School students while applying Leadership, Psychological and Motor Skill Learning theory.



Course Overview

Term 1
Students participate in an Adventure Based Learning programme. Practical lessons involve the skills and teamwork of Ki o Rahi.

Term 2
Students are involved in a 4-5 fitness training programme. They train towards a 4 km run or another physically challenging event. This is followed by an analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of the principles and methods of training used towards this event. Students get to experience Waka Ama on Porirua Harbour.

Term 3
Students are involved in coaching students from the Intermediate school. In small groups they will support, manage and help design sports lessons for their chosen sport. They will learn how to utilise good communication, psychological, and management strategies to improve the skill acquisition of their athletes.

Term 4
This will involve completing any work for all the standards above that is incomplete.
