Course Description

Recommended Prior Learning

Compulsory: A minimum of three years tuition on an instrument, including voice.


This Practical Music/Music Technology course offers students the opportunity to select a course which can be suited to their strengths and needs. This course focuses on Performance, Composition, Song Writing, Live Sound, Recording and Research. Students wishing to take this course will need to meet with their teacher to devise a suitable programme of study.

Course Overview

Term 1
Students work in an individualistic manner, choosing which standards they will undertake in their course. Students pick one Major (Solo Performance, Composition or Song Writing), and two Minors (Group Performance, Research, Sound Mixing). Term 1 will see students focussing on the first task of their major and their first Minor.

Term 2
Generally students will work on the second task for their major and complete their first minor and begin their second minor.

Term 3
Complete their major (Solo Performance, Composition or Song Writing) and work on their second minor.

Term 4
Students ensure all work towards the standards they want to enter is completed.
