Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Ms S. Yoon.

Recommended Prior Learning

A love of anime or manga definitely helps! The main recommendation is to come with enthusiasm and a willingness to challenge yourself, and have an open mind to different values and worldviews.

9JAPI Year 9 Japanese - Emergent course

The emergent course is designed to complement the Introduction to Japanese Language and Culture course. The aim is to enhance confidence with listening, speaking, reading and writing by placing more emphasis on using Japanese as the medium of delivery. Opportunity will be given to students to learn the Hiragana script so they can create authentic pieces of writing. This course looks at the Japanese language and the interconnected cultural aspects in greater depth. Understanding is gained of Japanese people and Japan’s deep relationship with NZ. How Japanese live and the place of Japan in the world is compared and contrasted with New Zealand life.

It is expected that students will also take 9JAP as a foundation to the 9JAPE course.
