This is a workshop based course, so health and safety is a priority at all times. Students are expected to work responsibly, and to support one another as a learning community to suceed in class.


This is a design and making course in the school workshops.

In this course students can choose a technological pathway they would like to focus in for the whole year; or they can choose 2 pathways over the year. The pathways expose students to different technological fields which they can go onto careers in, or take the transferable skills they learn into other careers.

Pathways will include jewellery design, woodwork and fabrication. The students will learn about the materials that they will be working with, and how to work them. They will also learn the theory behind the materials they will be using, so they understand their properties and characteristics. Students will learn how to design a product from start to finish within their chosen pathway, so they understand how products are concieved and realised in real life.

Students can choose to work in a pathway for the whole year OR may wish to choose to work in two over the year.

 Pathways offered will be:  (these may be subject to change)

  • Product Designer - Maker (through woodwork)
  • Jewellery Designer - Maker 
  • Fabricator - fabricators can work in many materials including metal and mouldable materials. Material will be specified at the time of the project.

Contributions and Equipment/Stationery

Students are required to purchase the stationery on the school stationery list, which will need to be purchased in time for the start of the course.
