NCEA Level 1 Spatial and Product Design 101

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: T. Tippett

This is a creative design course. It is run in the Graphics room.

In this course students will have the option to work on either a product or a spatial design project.

Students will learn to:

  1. Use the design process to solve a design brief
  2. Develop their freehand sketching skills
  3. Do technical drawing by hand using drawing instruments
  4. Develop their rendering skills
  5. Extend their use of design language to annotate and evaluate their own design ideas
  6. Use modelling techniques to generate and explore design ideas
  7. Communicate their ideas to others

This course is for students that like to be creative, to draw and to use their imaginations.

This course is eligible for course endorsement, as it includes external standards. It leads to the NCEA Level 2 Spatial and Product Design course.


Recommended Prior Learning

The Year 10 SPD course is preferential.
