Students who take this subject will build upon their Te Reo Māori developed over previous years. Students will learn how to make their Te reo Māori poet through the use of whakaniko, whakatauki and kiwaha, the use of moteatea, karanga and whāikōrero. This subject has a strong Te reo Māori focus.
Students studying REO201 will be well set-up for success in Te Reo in subsequent years at NCEA L3 and University level.
Recommended Prior Learning
12 credits at Level 1, including 1 External Achievement Standard; or at the discretion of the Teacher in Charge of Te Reo Māori
Contributions and Equipment/Stationery
To be advised during the year. Trips out of school may include Ngā Manu Kōrero, Kapa Haka Competitions and Noho Marae. All prices are indicative.
$15 return trip to Ngā Manu Kōrero Competition
$10 Secondary Schools Rā Haka
$25 for Regional Kapa Haka competition
$50 for fuel costs, food and koha for Noho Marae
