Course Description

Dance 201
This course covers dance choreography, performance and analysis with a focus on group choreography and performance. Students choreographic devices for both solo and group, perform in a repertoire of dances of a single style and learn an ethnic dance style. External standards require students to analyse a professional dance work and provide their interpretation of this.
Dance is a University approved subject. Skills gained in dance such as creative processes, analysis, innovation, communicating ideas, and collaborating effectively with others can be applied to a wide variety of occupations.
Participation in public performances is a compulsory aspect of this course.
Recommended Prior Learning
Dance 101 or TIC discretion.
Contributions and Equipment/Stationery
$30 for a Tawa Dance t-shirt. Hoodies are also available for $50. These may be worn with plain black shorts, leggings or trackpants.
Black jazz shoes are highly recommended.
An order will be placed at the start of the year (approx. $40 - $50).
Optional trips to live professional dance performances will be offered and are a valuable learning experience for students.
The cost is approximately $10-20 per performance.
