Course Description

Pathways 201
This course is designed to explore career pathways and develop student knowledge of employability skills, as well as help prepare them for work or tertiary study. Students will investigate career pathways and be encouraged to explore these options through available taster courses offered by outside providers. The course outline below is indicative only and may change to respond to student needs an opportunities. 

Students may also have the opportunity to complete a work placement programme such as Redshirts (retail), Countdown Seeds or Barista.

External courses and work placements are dependent on availability and students will need to demonstrate that they are reliable and committed. Taster courses could include Painting and Decorating, Carpentry, Animal Care, Baking, Hairdressing etc. Some of these courses come with industry based unit standards others are experience only.

Students wanting to take Gateway and Pathways will need to gain an HOD exemption.

Life skills/Employability Skills

Produce a personal targeted CV, 2 cr
Complete complex forms, 2 cr

Term 2
Life skills/Engaging with issues relevant to teenagers

Strategies for managing stress, 3 cr
Apply a problem solving method, 3 cr

Term 3
Engaging with issues relevant to teenagers

Risk factors and self-management for driving, 3cr
Write a short report, 2 cr

Term 4
Employability Skills

Cash handling in a retail environment, 3cr

Optional extras (can be completed at any time)
Traffic law for safe driving 3cr
Theft and fraud in a retail or distribution environment, 5cr

Recommended Prior Learning

None but students must have at least 30 credits from level 1 or be interviewed by the HOD.

Pathway

This course has a a focus on employability skills and prepares students for a range of career pathways.
