Food and Nutrition 101:
This course has been developed from the Health (Food and Nutrition) and Technology curriculum areas.
Students will gain knowledge, understanding and skills in the following:
Preparing food safety and then developing strategies to address food handling issues at both personal and community levels.
Using knowledge of food safety, sequencing and cookery to process a bread/pizza product following a flowchart with processing operations and testing procedures to ensure that the product meets agreed specifications.
Food processing knowledge and skills in the context of breads. We will explore and make breads such as Rewena, pani popo, a white loaf, pita bread, naan and bagels. Students will learn the science the bread making process.
Learn about the interconnectedness between an individuals wellbeing, their whanau/family and the wider society. We will look at this in the context of nutrition.

Recommended Prior Learning
Preferable: Year 10 Food and Nutrition but not necessary. Just bring your enthusiasm and passion for food.

This course leads to Level 2 Food and Nutrition which is a blended Technology and Nutrition/Health course (Achievement standards) and/or Level 2 Hospitality (unit standard industry based course).
