English (Visual) 101
This course is designed to help you develop your writing, reading and speaking skills in a
theme-based programme of study. You will also study a film and learn about how meaning is created within visual texts.
Course Overview
Term 1
This term will involve a film study. Students will be assessed on your their viewing skills, using the film the class has studied.
Term 2
Term 2 will involve text studies and a formal writing assessment.
Term 3
More text studies in Term 3, leading to a connections essay, in which students will write about the elements (themes, structures, characters, language features) that are similar across the texts.
Term 4
Preparation for the NCEA exam in November.
Recommended Prior Learning
It is not possible to select this course. However, it may be recommended to you by your class teacher, based on your engagement with Year 9 and 10 English.
Contributions and Equipment/Stationery
No scheduled trips. Opportunities to attend theatrical productions may present themselves from time to time, incurring a small cost.
