English (Literary) 101
In this course, you will study a range of literary texts and develop your ability to describe and explain details in each text. You will also develop your writing and speaking skills. This course helps you to develop the essential human practices of considering other people's perspectives and developing your own.
Course Overview
Term 1
Studies of short literary texts and a film, culminating with a film analysis assessment task.
Term 2
Further text studies, leading into a writing assessment task - either creative or formal writing.
Term 3
A study of a full-length novel, together with a focus on how to identify and discuss elements (themes, structures, characters, language features) common across a range of texts. Internal assessment this term will take the form of an essay which discusses connections between texts.
Term 4
Preparation for the Year 11 English exam in November.
Recommended Prior Learning
Year 10 English.
Contributions and Equipment/Stationery
No scheduled trips. Opportunities to attend theatrical productions may present themselves from time to time, incurring a small cost.
