Course Description

Early Childhood Education
This course offers students interested in ECE credits through Plunket's ECE Learning and Development Programme. There is a combination of theory with some practical experience. Topics covered include basic needs and nutrition, attachment relationships, and learning and development.

Students need to have a genuine interest in ECE or related pathways such as caregiving or nursing.

Units are provided by Plunket.


Course Overview

Term 1
Introduction to ECE as a Career, keeping young children healthy, clean and safe.
We will explore the pathways to a career in ECE and complete the two units while connecting with each other as a group.

Brain development and milestones, learning through play.

Educational practices and development

Basic needs and nutrition that support young children's holistic wellbeing and development, 4cr

Term 4
Completion.

Care practice for infants and toddlers - optional if finished

Recommended Prior Learning

10 Level 1 literacy credits, or be interviewed by the HOD. Students should have a genuine interest in Early Childhood Education or related pathways.

Pathway

This course prepares students for pathways including early childhood teaching, care giving, and nursing.
