Year 9 TECHNOLOGY - Textiles - Applied Design

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mrs T. Tippett.

Do you want to challenge traditional boundaries of textiles to create new and innovative designs ?

(Please note this is different course to our Textiles - Manipulation course.)

This course is all about making textile items (not clothes). You will learn how to design and make textile items by applying design to fabric, this could be through dyeing, printing, painting, applique etc...

Students can select this course and the Textiles - Manipulation course if they wish to spend a full year working with fabrics.


 You will learn:

  • how to use the design process to create original design ideas
  • to explore different materials and how to work with them
  • to use the sewing machine 
  • how to sew by hand
  • about different types of fabrics

 

Course Overview

Semester A
This is a half year course.

Recommended Prior Learning

You will need to want to be creative and explore different textile techniques.

You will need a willingness to make the most of all the opportunities this project offers you, and be apart of a strong learning community in the class with the other students to support each other to succeed.

Contributions and Equipment/Stationery

Students will be required to purchase the items on the school stationery list, ready for the start of the course.
