Year 9 TECHNOLOGY - Fashion Design and Construction
Course Description

This course is a Fashion Sewing Skills course that explores the process of creating a garment from design through to construction.

(Please note this is different course to the Textiles - Applied Design course.)
This course is all about learning how to read a pattern and construct a garment (clothes). You will learn how to design and make your garment by understanding patterns and fabrics.
Students can select this course and the Textiles - Applied design course if they wish to spend a full year working with fabrics.
You will learn:
- how to use the design process to create original design ideas
- to explore different materials and how to work with them
- to use the sewing machine
- how to read and use a pattern
- about different types of fabrics
- how to add finishes to a garment
Recommended Prior Learning
You will need an interest in designing, being creative and in working with fabrics sewing both by hand and machine.
Contributions and Equipment/Stationery
Students will be required to purchase the items on the school stationery list, ready for the start of the course.
