Year 9 English
Ko te kai a te rangatira, he kÅrero... In Year 9 English, you will complete work which helps to make this whakatauki true in your own life. Good, heart-to-heart discussion is sustenance for mature people. At Tawa College, all students take English in Years 9 to 11. In Year 9 English, you will develop your ability both to make meaning (through reading, listening and viewing) and to create meaning (through writing, speaking and presenting). You will also be encouraged to make your own choices for personal reading, and to make connections between the texts you encounter and the world around you. As you progress through the English programme at each year level, you will gradually develop your ability to state ideas clearly, to elaborate upon them, to select relevant supporting evidence, and to analyse the choices made by writers, speakers and film directors. The lessons you learn in English can then be applied in a wide range of subjects and situations.
