NCEA Level 1 Mathematics E 101 with External Assessments
Course Description

Mathematics 101(External):
This course aims to give students the necessary mathematical and algebraic skills and background to continue with Mathematics at Level 2, as well as to further develop logical thinking and problem solving techniques.
This course is designed around the Level 1 achievement standards and Level 6 of the Mathematics Curriculum. Students are expected to sit all standards offered in these courses to be admitted into Level 2 courses.
Course Overview
Term 1
The internal standards covered in this term are Number and Linear Algebra. We will also do some of the Geometric Reasoning standard, which is an external.
Term 2
The internal standard covered in this term is Multivariate Statistics. We will also continue with Geometric Reasoning.
Term 3
This term will mainly be a focus on the Algebra content. The external for the Algebra standard will also occur at the end of this term; approximately week 9. We will also start work for the external Chance and Data.
Term 4
This term we will finish the work for Chance and Data.
Recommended Prior Learning
Students should have gained Achieved or better in most Year 10 common tests and in all sections of the Year 10 exam. Students will be placed by the HOD in the Level 1 Mathematics course which most suits their background and ability.
Pathway
MATE101 is a required course for anyone intending to study University courses requiring Mathematics and/or Statistics.
