Course Description

English Language Learners 301

This course is primarily for Year 12 and 13 English Language Learners with an opportunity to improve their skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening. Year 11 English Language Learners may also be accepted for this course if they are working at an appropriate level. There is an emphasis on teaching reading strategies that can be applied to mainstream classes, as well as methods for vocabulary development. Students are also supported in developing their writing, with a focus on different text types, such as information texts, recounts and persuasive texts. There is diagnostic testing done throughout the year to monitor students' progression. Assessments are offered at multiple levels: Foundation, NCEA Level 2, NCEA Level 3.

Digital learning is a key component of this class.


Recommended Prior Learning

ELL201, or at the discretion of the Head of Learning Support and Teacher in Charge of English Language Learners (ELL), based on diagnostic testing.
