Teacher in Charge: A. Reed
Year 10 French continues the development of Year 9 themes, progressing to the topics of school and daily routines, hobbies and sports, the household, and getting around town. Students begin to talk about future and past events, and can have simple conversations - for example, arranging a meeting, going shopping, inviting friends and taking the Metro.
Learning French sets a platform to not only study at higher levels within NCEA, but also opens up a new world of culture that stretches from Africa across to Canada in French-speaking communities. It is the official Language in 29 countries and has around 140 million speakers worldwide. It is the international language of diplomacy and trade; said to be one of the three most useful languages for international business.
Students studying at Year 10 level will be well placed to proceed to Level 1 of NCEA the following year. Students also have the opportunity to gain NCEA Level 1 credits through a speech assessment at the end of the Year 10 course.
In exceptional circumstances, students who have not studied Year 9 French may join the Year 10 course. Contact Madame Reed or Mr Conroy for further information.
